Hello, lovelies! I was recently sent an ARC of To Get to You by Joanne Bischof, and I'm SO excited to share the results with you. Here we go, my short review!
About the Story:
To get to the girl he loves, Riley Kane must head off on a road trip with the father he never knew. Then pray for a miracle. Most teens would love to have a pro surfer for a dad. Just not Riley. Abandoned as a kid, he hates the sound of the ocean and the man who gave himself to it.
When the eighteen-year-old learns that his best friend is stranded at a New Mexico hospital as her father fights for his life, Riley hits the highway to head east. But when his Jeep breaks down before he even leaves California, he must rely on the one man he despises to get to the girl who needs him the most. And when it comes to the surfer with the Volkswagen Van and the dog-eared map, a thousand miles may-or may not-be enough to heal the past. A story of new beginnings and second chances.
If I could describe this novel in one word, it would be wholesome. It was simply a happy story. If you're looking for something to read that will lift you up, and leave you smiling at the end, then read To Get to You, and you won't be disappointed.
The main character, Riley, was real, and I believed who he was and what he stood for. His reactions to his father, at some points, were annoying, but deep down you could see that his short temper had its reasons. By the end of the novel, he was a changed person, and it's hard not to love a novel that evokes change in its characters.
The story itself was easy-going and a page turner. It wasn't "exciting" in a watch-your-back/thriller sort of way, like a lot of books that I've been reading lately were, but wanting to know what happens next kept me turning the pages in this contemporary YA novel.
As an end note, I'm looking forward to reading more from Joanne, and hope that you don't miss out on this lovely, happy novel. You can 1-Click preorder it on Amazon.
